Sunday stroll on Dartmoor

It was a beautiful sunny but cold day yesterday. The perfect day for a stroll on the moors. Since the new year I've been getting out and walking more often. Yesterday we made a way to Wistman's Wood, an ancient woodland. The early afternoon with blue skies and fluffy clouds. It looks warm but trust me it wasn't!

The oaks and granite here are covered in moss. Everywhere is damp and green.

Two of our motley crew check their maps. They could be Holmes and Watson!

for a much needed pot of tea and a sit down by the fire...heaven!

I love both these mannequins. I think I have a very eclectic taste or is it just that I can't make my mind up!

This beautiful bespoke mannequin was made for Elaine and uses a reproduction print from the 1930s by Sanderson. Then comes Sophie! A striking black and white damask. Gorgeous!!!

It's nearly 9am so I'd better open up the workroom, fill it with light and get to work.

Tizia, the stegosaurus

I love January. I like the cleaning away of Christmas decs to reveal a fresh new view. I love the weather, the cold and bleakness (not sure what that says about me but I really do love cold, dark and bleak weather.) I love the warm, delicious January food...ahh that's why I love it...its the food!!!
My birthday is in January too so is the tax return deadline! Oh well, it can't all be about having fun.

I did have a laugh with my new mannequin Tizia. Here she is in all her glory with a contrasting red satin ribbon. Beautiful fabric, reminiscent of a William Morris print but with a more contemporary feel.

The fun came when I had an idea to lace her up differently. I used a wide organza ribbon in a gorgeous dark plum and made individual bows running down her spine. It didn't work! She looked like a stegosaurus, especially side-on. Never mind, it made me laugh.

I've been working on a bespoke mannequin using a reprint of a 1920s Sanderson fabric. Rather lovely and will post photos of her soon. Also a black and white version of Sophie which is very striking.

I've ordered new fabrics for 2012 and will be saying "good bye" to a few of my gal's this year...its time for a prune.

I can't believe its all over! Even the turkey has disappeared

(I'm boiling the carcass as we speak).

We still have the New Year celebrations of course.

I think it will be a quiet one for me this year. How about you?

I did manage to get out and photograph my little army of Giselle mannequins. They're off to New York very soon and I love taking them out into the beautiful Devon scenery, especially at this time of the year when it is so dark and bleak. Then home to family, a warm fire and pot of tea...perfect!

Maybe I should to get out more :D

Ballet mannequin

This sweet little mannequin is a bespoke Christmas gift for a little girl.

The fabric is so lovely. Quite neutral in an oatmeal shade with chocolate ballerinas and French script.

She has a corset and laced back finish with, of course, a ballet pink satin ribbon. I do so hope she likes her.

I have been so busy this Christmas. Today is the first day I can honestly say that I have no Christmas orders to either complete or dispatch. I feel very privileged to be responsible for so many Christmas gifts. I just hope they all go to contended recipients and that no one is disappointed, either the giver or the receiver. I shall be thinking about that on Christmas morning whilst watching my own loved ones open their presents.

Still have lots of things to do before the big day...

* finish the seat cover on my little tub chair...I've used a lovely warm, tweedy Shetland wool *

* get out and forage for some wonderful winter green goodness for my mantle piece *

* shop for those last minute foodie bits...important things like the turkey have been ordered in advance *

* finish wrapping presents...how do you wrap a mannequin?! *

* start and maybe finish my youngest daughters quilt using my scraps of fabric *

* get ready for our Christmas Eve get together with family and friends *

* sit back and enjoy it all *

Christie's of London...

I was so chuffed when Pat, head of Christie's fashion department, asked if they could borrow a wasp waisted mannequin for an up coming auction of antique and vintage clothing....of course I said "yes!"

Pat kindly sent me a catalogue and here are a few of the gorgeous gowns and, of course, my mannequin..she's the crushed velvet claret one. They liked her so much they decided to keep her!

It's a beautiful catalogue....especially the back cover.

The sale was today. I do hope it went well.

These fabulous images are from a happy client who ordered a wasp waisted Celia mannequin to display her stunning antique corsets and gowns. This lovely lady passed on some useful information regarding the fitting of the corset and gown too.

This stunning corset in magenta silk dates from 1880.

She writes "Informed clients will notice that the laced corset has perfectly parallel back ends when laced on your mannequin. As you can see YOUR mannequin is much more appropriate for displaying this corset than is the mannequin on which it is put on here

Its wonderful to know that the my wasp waisted mannequins work so well for corset display. The website BUSTLEDRESS is well worth a visit and includes some wonderful patterns as well as antique and reproduction outfits.

This incredibly gown is a Margueritte early production 1910 (a New York early "haute couture" designer, named later "Madame Marge").

I love the detail here with the lace work on the arms and collar.

She writes "I must say that I didn't use any bra or special fittings for top of the dress. It is simply put on your mannequin, and this is it! For the sleeves, I've simply filled them with neutral silk paper in order to highlight the lace they are made of. If you like details and Edwardian period gowns, please note the golden metallic trim which is under the V collar in the 32 photo - it was quite a break through in 1910."

Both garments are simply divine and I'm thrilled that my lovely client, who wishes to remain anonymous, took the considerable time to send me the images and information.

Latest limited edition Florence mannequin (and friend)

So lovely when you get your little mitts on some pretty vintage fabric and think...."can't wait to get this home and chop it up!" That's what I was thinking when I bought this textured beauty. The only problem then is finding the time to do the deed but its amazing how much you can squeeze out of a day when you are determined. Florence, my latest limited edition vintage fabric mannequin, was born on such a day.

I've also been busy with Betty, a striped ticking mannequin with corset and laced back.

I was going to use a sombre charcoal but thought a cherry red would work beautifully.

And just to round my day of to perfection, a catalogue from Christie's of London landed on my hallway floor today. Inside there are beautifully photographed antique and vintage clothes for an upcoming auction in London...displayed on one my wasp waisted mannequins! Photos, of course, to follow soon.

It's time for an update...

...but which ones?

I've decided that I need to buy some new crockery. I have lots of mismatched vintage and new pieces which is fine and dandy BUT I want to be a proper grown up with a full set of matching crockery and not just for special days but to be used everyday. I don't have a dish washer...I love washing up by hand and if its washing pretty crockery, so much the better.

So what should I choose?

This is from the Burleigh Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent and established in 1851. Having said that I want a matching set I think what I mean is matching in style/design but perhaps with different patterns.

I'm drawn to blue. I love the this dark cobolt blue hand painted Polish pottery by Boleslawiec and found at Country Traditionals. I also have a few pieces of this.

Buy then I love the simplicity of these hand thrown pieces by Nick Membery in Wales. There aren't as many pieces to choose from which might help me!

Then I found Little Wren Pottery on Etsy. I love the colours here, so earthy and natural.

So there you have it. I can't make my mind up and I need your help please.

Vintage fabrics, work and play...

I have two beautiful vintage fabrics sitting in my workroom, tempting me to start work on them but I can't. I'm too busy. Perhaps I should lock them away out of sight and mind but I love to see them, occasionally touch and caress them. It's my fabric addiction!

I'm busy with a lovely large order of eighteen mannequins for a client in Lithuania! Although I think they are destined for a store in Russia...not sure which country is more exotic.

After a few days working on my seamless mannequins I'm left with a large bundle of pretty colourful, soft strips of velvet. I'm wondering what I can do with them. Perhaps they could be turned into balls of yarn? or sandwiched in a frame to create a work of art? or pop them up to the local pre-school? Perhaps the latter.

It's absolutely breathtakingly beautiful in my neck of the woods at the moment. I love the colours and textures, the dark skies, the smell and sound of the rainfall, the bleakness...

The road home to a warm fire, piece of fruit cake and a pot of very hot tea...heaven.

Which reminds me that I have to stack the pile of logs delivered today...

I think I'll wait until it stops raining first.

A visit to Bath

We had a fabulous few days away at CenterParcs, Longleat with a visit squeezed in to beautiful Bath. The weather was wonderful and Bath was surprisingly quiet.

I spotted this gorgeous little Figaro parked in The Royal Crescent.

A few doors down and we were in the Georgian Garden

and what did I spot through the window....

...mannequins!

It must be a sewing school but I haven't been able to find out anything else about it...perhaps its part of the university? And then it started to rain...

It absolutely poured down. There's nothing more invigorating than a proper downpour.
I loved it.

A few streets away, completely drenched from head to toe, we found the wonderful Museum of Costume.

Finally a visit to the Victoria Art Gallery. No photos allowed of the artworks but I did take a beautiful photo of the ceiling. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of postcards at both venues and can't understand why they don't have more for visitors to buy. The costumes at the Museum of Fashion are so so beautiful. I would have gladly bought a good image of each one of them or most of them but they didn't have any that I thought were worth buying. Neither in the art gallery. I do like a postcard as a momento of my visit and to display. Being a visual, rather than wordy person, I find them better than books.

Of course we did a little bit of shopping too, or rather my daughters did. Bath is full of lovely shops, mostly very expensive, lovely shops.

I think another visit is due soon, this time it will be with a girlfriend and an underused credit card!

...because of the fantastically bright and cheerful seamless mannequins I've been working on for a client in Qatar. They wanted Turquoise and Tangerine to match their store.

I feel energised and excited about adding these two new colours to my seamless range.

Colour therapy indeed!

Lyme Regis

Yesterday was another glorious autumn day...or was it a summers day? It certainly felt like it at Lyme Regis. So many people had the same idea to visit Lyme. It was heaving! It took us an hour to find a parking space.

The seaside beech huts are so colourful and can be rented for £750 per annum!

A beautiful photographer who is taking photography GCSE next year.

and from my favourite Jane Austen film Persuasion, Captain Harville's cottage. I wonder if it really is the one used in the film with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds? I'll have to watch it again just find out.

Its a lovely day again today...when will it end? Must say I am looking forward to the cold and lighting the fire...but I'm not complaining.

I'm very pleased to be taking part in the Cotswold's Bride magazine this year. Lauren Magovern from Ladyamy Wedding Design has put together a wonderful eclectic mix of wedding related services and company's. I'm in the top left hand corner.

Lauren's mood board had me thinking about weddings...

Do you remember your wedding? Of course you do! Was your beautiful wedding dress, hanging from a coat hanger on the edge of a wardrobe? You probably have photos like these...

Lovely aren't they but wouldn't this be better....a mannequin for that extra special dress? Would you have used a mannequin if your wedding venue had provided you with one?

I have listed nine mannequins here on Ebay.co.uk including the two mannequins below which have been autographed by the presenters of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model! All proceeds for these two mannequins go to Breast Cancer Research and CLIC. The auctions finish on the 15th.

also, there are two new mannequins in the shop! Violette in ivory and black. The fabric is a wonderful vintage inspired cotton featuring French advertising labels...beautiful!!!

Home again....

I've been home for nearly one week and our two week holiday seems to have happened months ago! It was wonderful though, to spend time with my little family without any interruption of work and school. My children are young teenagers and anyone with young teenagers knows you don't always get to spend a lot of time with them (except when they want something!). They spend all day at school, come home and lock themselves away in their bedrooms, only to emerge for food! So it was wonderful to have this time with them. I suppose that's what holidays are for.

We stayed in Sidari, Corfu. Sidari is quite a commercialised resort but very friendly and Corfu is a small island so we were able to see quite a bit of it using the local tour buses. These photos were taken in Kassiopi and Paloekastritsa. Fabulous clear blue waters and no rain! To be honest it was so lovely to come home to a grey day. Now I'm looking forward to lighting the fire and getting all snuggly at home.

Usually, unless its a larger multiple order, I don't get the chance to photograph mannequins together. They are shipped as soon as they are ready but three versions of my Emma mannequin came together beautifully. These are off today but before their dispatch I took the importunity to take a few photos.

We have from left to right, standard 10/12 Emma, retro 10/12 Emma and wasp waisted Emma. All three have corset and laced backs and black stands....beautiful!!

A tweed suit is my favourite but I like a pin stripe too. Not quite sure why I'm telling you that but there it is...right, back to my two handsome devils here...meet Henry and Jack. Of course you've already met Jack. Henry is a one of a kind and commissioned by Henry Herbert Tailors in Savile Row. They have a great little logo with 1950s gents in various poses. So cute and works so well on this bespoke mannequin.

I've been watching for weeks and last night I saw my mannequins behind the couch in the house!

Fabulous couch, fabulous cushions, even more fabulous mannequins!!

It's not going to be the same as Gok's Clothes Roadshow where they were used in different locations BUT I thought I could use a different photo every week of one of the lovely models! Now isn't that a great idea!

Today's model is Ufuoma...isn't she beautiful.

sow flowers instead!

This Spring I planted flowers in my allotment for the first time. I used less than a quarter of it and planted cosmos, cornflowers, gypsophilia and sweetpeas. I'm so glad I did as now I have fresh flowers all the time, I reckon I could open a florist shop! Friends and family have been sent a bunch or two too. The best thing is they keep producing more...what darlings! I picked these this morning in between the rain showers.

I'm planning next years crop to include zinnias, nigella, dill, poppies and more. Whats really surprised me is how easy it has been. They hardly need any care. I haven't watered them since they went into the ground and they haven't had any problems from the usual allotment critters such as caterpillars and slugs (unlike my puny cabbages!), Lucyxx

Its been another busy week with mannequins dispatched across the globe to Ireland, Australia, USA, Germany, Canada and of course here in dear old Blighty.

I'm going to have to start thinking about the two week holiday that's planned for the end of August...TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM HOME AND BRIAN!!

The weekend is nearly here and I have quite a bit planned mostly involving an old 8ft trampoline which the children have grown out of (hooray, I'll get some garden back), assorted junk filled cardboard boxes, a trailer and a recycling centre! What a sophisticated life I lead!!

I was chatting to a friend who runs her own craft business and we were discussing how to make our work more enjoyable. I should say at this point that we both love our jobs but there are times when we need to do something a bit different. For instance, I love my Emma mannequin, even after making hundreds, but sometimes I need to let my creative side out! It's so important to give yourself "free time" to experiment and not feel guilty about it...you stumble across new ideas and methods and recharge your batteries!

With that in mind I bought a bundle of lovely vintage scraps...

aren't they gorgeous? vintage florals, abstracts, barkcloths and cottons...

I laid them out, choosing my favourites, and placing them in the best location before sewing them together to form a complete length...

and here she is...

With my creative need taken care of for a few more days I can very happily get back to beautifully simple, elegant Emma.

A little family of mannequins! Celia and her brood, 10 year old Lydia and 8 year old Phoebe.

The photo is a little shaky because the weather today has been awful for photographing. Yesterday was a beautiful hot day spent at the seaside.

This morning we have had so much rain and grey skies. Little wonder we Brits are obsessed by the weather.

And I had to show you this beautiful bunch of cornflowers, grown from seed by me on my allotment!

I'm so pleased but we do have a few unwelcomed guests too.

Actually I quite like them and I don't mind sharing with them (a bit).

Mollie Makes Magazine...what a beauty!

I finally got my hands on issue 2 of the Mollie Makes magazine and its SO lovely! Even the paper its printed on is a lovely matt paper...very stylish. I was also very pleased to see my mannequin used...LOOK you can see her feet!!! I had to laugh.

Its full of delicious images and fabulous websites to take a peek at...

as well as some great crafty projects to make like this pretty crochet blanket.

here are the lovely strawberries I mentioned in my last post from Scrapiana.

and on the front cover. Scrapiana has a Flickr group too so you can add photos of the strawberries you make. Which reminded me of my Corset Laced Mannequin Flickr group where you can add photos of your CLM mannequin! I know, its very exciting!!

As you can see from these photos I haven't made up my Lulu Rose mannequin (did I blog about my new fabrics?) I haven't had a moment to spare BUT I will make an effort perhaps over the weekend as I'm itching to see this beautiful fabric in mannequin form. see you soon, Lucyxx

fabric scraps...

As you can imagine I have my fair share of fabric scraps but with limited time (I know, none of us have enough!) I never quite know what to do with them. I keep them back, knowing that one day an idea will come to me. This day has arrived!

I was perusing blog world and found Eirlys' inspiring blog post about rug making (she also made the lovely strawberries on the front cover of issue two of the Mollie Makes mag!). I've tried rug making before but it was the crocheting method where you crochet long strips of fabric and then curl them into a mat, stitching them together as you go. This took too long for me so I am delighted to have discovered progging!

Not being a very patient person I immediately went about purchasing the required paraphernalia...ie hessian and progging tool. It was lovely to find John from www.makings.co.uk who specialises in rug making equipment. They are based in Launceston, Cornwall, a special place for me as my Mum was born there

I've drawn a rough pattern of flowers on my hessian and I'm using a different fabric for each of my mannequins. I'm not sure it will be as obvious as I hope it will be but time will tell. This is about an hours work, maybe less. It's very quick and I think the effect is fabulous.

Even the back looks gorgeous to me!

Some of my fabrics fray a bit too much but I'm hoping they will settle down.

Beautiful gardens, busy allotments

Very occasionally I'm allowed a day out away from the sewing machine! On this rare day I choose a visit to Coleton Fishacre near Kingswear. It's a very pretty house made in the 1920s for the D'Oyly Carte family. The gardens are stunning too...

a huge Tulip tree and a tiny daughter...both absolutely gorgeous!

Wonderful sea view at the bottom of the huge garden. A well earned cream tea followed!

Not quite so grand, my own humble little garden.

and my allotment which I was planning on just sowing fruit and flowers but somehow the veg has creeped in! Along with the strawberries and raspberries we have...

onions and dwarf beans,

beautiful cornflowers,

a forest of cosmos,

sweetpeas and a lonely cabbage.

I do love my allotment. Its a great place to escape to and weeding is so therapeutic!

It does that a lot of time but I'm finding the raised beds work very well for me.

We have a patch which has nothing in at the moment. I'm thinking of planting a couple of plum or damson trees. Would be lovely to sit under in the summer months and of course to eat later in the year.

A new mannequin style...about time too!

and a new fabric too...meet Orla! I do love the retro look and feel of the chrome and fabric combination.

a mouth watering orange with black and white detail...love the little bird!

All the fabrics from the other ranges, including the seamless will be available on this style mannequin too. She's available in two sizes, 8/10 and 10/12 and I might even offer a black stand rather than the chrome.

I do love it when I get my hands on some vintage fabric. This is a beautiful slubby textured barkcloth in purples, pinks and mauves.

I've added a new category to the website called "Coming soon!" . Its a glimpse of the fabrics I plan on using next. I have a huge stash of fabrics which I dip into every now and again. This way there may be some order to my work but I doubt it...some days I just have to work with a colour/texture which suits my mood!

I do love a pretty postcard and after receiving some beauties from Sarah Hardaker I thought..oooh, wouldn't it be nice to have a set of my own! and here they are...

I ordered these awhile ago and forgot about them when I started work on a new fabric with a lovely vintage, decoupaged feel featuring, amongst other things....postcards!

I've named her Giselle. She is rather lovely but what do you think of latest edition to the Curtis gallery...the stern looking woman to the right? My children were quite scared of her when I first bought her home.

She is called Mrs Baxter...and don't you forget it...I know I won't!

Lavender and beeswax...

I'm also chuffed that the cream stands look so good.

I've named her Phoebe after a very beautiful young lady I know very well.

Its been a fabulous week here in mannequin land.

My velvet gal's came home autographed to the hilt,
the new website was launched and looks gorgeous,
Tia mannequin was featured on the Etsy email,
I've had the most fabulous feedback,
been to the gym three times (and amazingly want to go back for more!),
I've been interviewed by Sharon of My Passport to Style,
bought a ton of gorgeous satin ribbons in every shade imaginable (I couldn't say no and just looking at them cheers me up no end)

and finally, won the lottery so had Elcie painted in this stunning floral to match Catherine the mannequin and moved into this fabulous house!

actually that last bit was a bit of a porky pie but one can dream!

Britain's Next Top Model 2011 mannequins

I sent ten mannequins in various shades from my seamless range to the Britains Next Top Model house a few months ago. Now they are back! As you can see two of them have been autographed by all of the shows presenters, X factor stylist Grace Woodward, designer Julien Macdonald, male model Charley Speed and supermodel Elle Macpherson!!

I'm absolutely thrilled and will auction them off for charity as I did with the Gok and Brix mannequin when the show is aired this summer (although my daughter wants me to keep one!)

Shiny new website.

I've done it. I've pressed the button! My old site will soon be a thing of the past and my shiny new site will be up and running!

It may take a few hours (up to 72!) but the new site is much clearer, less cluttered and the photos can be enlarged so you can get a much better view. All in all a more slicker, smoother, lovelier, brighter, website!

I'm hoping to start work this weekend on one of my modern shaped mannequins in this gorgeous fabric but I might not be able to find the time as I have raspberries to plant out, a trip to Exeter, packing for Monday dispatches and a birthday tea to organise for a very special man (and I don't mean Brian!).

a new hotchpotch mannequin

I finally found the time to complete her. Sneaked her in between a couple of customer orders. I always feel guilty working on new mannequins when customers are waiting but I think of this as my research and development and therefore essential which makes me feel just a little bit more justified!

I think I'm going to have to tailor a mannequin in just the floral fabric too. It's so pretty.

Other news at the CLM workshop and home....

My old cat George has gone on to cat heaven. We were all sad but he had lived to 19 years and I think he had had enough.
My girls have been given two African hedgehogs to care for. They are very cute, snuffle little things. The hedgehogs are sweet too!
I've been working in the allotment preparing it for fruit and flowers (with limited veg...we usually grow far too much and it never gets eaten, then I feel guilty).
Sweetpea, cosmos, sunflower and cornflower seeds sown and safely installed in my very tiny greenhouse. The smell inside is heaven!!
I've teamed up with Period Living to run a competition! Two tailored mannequins will be up for grabs...more on that soon.

I'm so looking forward to this new magazine for crafters due for release in May 2011. I am a little biased because they will be using one of my seamless mannequins for clothes photography, however, listening to Joanna Hepinstall (Editor) it sounds as though it could be right up my street (and your's too!).

Last of Gok's Clothes Roadshow

I know everything has to come to an end but I'm a little bit sad that I won't be seeing my velvet girls on the TV again (at least for a few weeks anyway).

This week Gok was in the fashion capitol of the world, London and my mannequins were on hand to help.

Its been an absolute thrill from start to finish and I'm looking forward to helping out again next time. Heres a photo roundup of the last eight weeks

Meanwhile, in mannequin land, I'm catching up with orders, finishing off new mannequins and trying to get out occasionally to enjoy the gorgeous weather we have in Devon at the moment! what's the expression...make hay while the sun shines!

Gok Wan and my dolly

Its been fabulous watching my mannequin's on TV. Used not just as a display mannequin but also by Gok and his team as a tailors dummy. I get asked many times if they are suitable for dress making and my standard response has been "my mannequins are primarily for display and yes they are great for home dressmaking but perhaps not as a professional tailors dummy." I stand by that BUT I will now add

"If they're good enough for Gok and his team then they will work for anyone!".

This week, Gok carried Dolly off to work on her through the night. They're also very portable!

Next Tuesday will be the last episode of Gok's Clothes Roadshow and I still haven't spotted Jason the male mannequin...fingers crossed he makes a late appearance.

Just one day of decoupaging....

...and I'm missing Brian my sewing machine! Actually its not Brian but the fabric I miss so much. Today a lovely box of goodies arrived with four new fabrics, purchased together with a view to tailoring a new Dotty Hotchpotch mannequin.

This is my original Dotty Hotchpotch tailored using Cath Kidston fabrics. These are the new fabrics..

Each one would make a lovely mannequin but together I think they will work beautifully and I can't wait to get stuck in! I have a few more orders to complete before playtime can start but

next time I may have some photos of Dotty Hotchpotch II !

Taking photos has got to be one of the hardest parts of running an online shop. I take loads of them, then deliberate for ages on which ones to use. I find that having an Etsy shop means I can be more adventurous with my photos, whereas I try and keep my website images using thhe same backdrop and neutral background...but I LOVE these more colourful images. Should I use them on my website? or stick to my usual setup? will it make my website look untidy? should the images there be uniformed? does any of this really matter?

It's Saturday. You're shopping. You haven't found a thing you wanted. You're feet are aching and you're tired. You need a coffee and there it is, Costa Coffee. You walk in, order a grande frappo mocha latte double (!) and wind your way over to the table tucked away in the corner. You sit down, remove your coat and prepare yourself for a reviving drink but something is missing. What is it? You look around. Everything appears normal. Then it comes to you.....Costa Coffee don't have a display mannequin!!

It's hard to believe, to take in all at once but you know its true. Why you ask? Why? and then its dawns on you. Of course...Lucy hasn't tailored a mannequin in an original coffee bean burlap bag!

Now that would be a quirky, interesting and fun addition to Costa Coffee's decor!

I know what you're thinking....Lucy, don't give up your day job! but its OK I won't be enrolling on an amateur writing course just yet.

But seriously, I do love this mannequin. Its completely different to my pretty, floral girls. I do have, like most people, an eclectic taste which makes life interesting when choosing fabrics. The term Rustic Chic comes to my mind and I can see her working in many locations and shops. Each one will be a unique one of a kind. I'm popping her on Etsy.com today. I was inspired but these fabulous products already listed there, made using these earthy bags.

Almost a Spring day....

....first day of the year that I have had a cup of tea in the garden! The sun was warm and the air fresh...absolute heaven. The rose bushes are looking very sad. I know they need pruning but I'm terrified I'm going to kill them off. Perhaps they should have been pruned earlier! Oh dear...I'm a hopeless gardener.

I think the Gods must have been looking down on me today and matched the weather to my new 1950s inspired floral fabric mannequin.

What a week...what a day!

Had a fantastic surprise this morning...my Vintage Print wasp waisted mannequin made it onto Etsy.com's frontpage!

I'm so pleased and thankfully I was able to find the printscreen button before she moved on to the long line of Etsy has beens. Look, look....I have proof!!!!

It's been quite a week for deadlines and rush commissions too. This was my workroom floor yesterday...full of lovely Laura Ashley Austen remnants for four Emma corset & laced mannequins. I should be in my workroom now, sewing away. A weekend of plans put off to complete this order in time and of course, not to put other orders behind.

Like I've said in other posts...Thank goodness I love my job!

And lastly (they would have been firstly if it hadn't been for the Etsy coup!), my three new seamless mannequin shades. Inspired by the nude colours in fashion land at the moment...Nude, Ivory and Storm.

I think they will enhance the simple shades already offered in my seamless range ie Cappucino, Biscuit and Blush whilst bringing more options for people, especially boutique, wedding and fashion shops.

I suppose I had better get back to Brian the sewing machine.

I hope he likes me as much as I do him!

Not one but three new mannequins....

I love searching for new fabrics and ideas. Its one of the best aspects of my job. So much so that it doesn't feel like a job but more like a fantastic hobby. The fabric arrived last Friday and so I was able to work on these three beauties over the weekend (yep, definately a great job if you can't wait until Monday morning to start!).

A new year....

...a new phase in the Corset Laced Mannequins evolution. I've been thinking about this for some time now and with the new year it seems to be the right time. Corset Laced Mannequins will only be selling new mannequins! No more vintage/antique mannequins and no more vintage homewares or display heads. Cripes, it feels kind of strange, especially the vintage mannequins.

I really want to focus on MY mannequins and as much as I love vintage it's time for me, on a commercial basis anyway, to say good bye to them.

The new Corset Laced Mannequin website is void of all things vintage.

Roll out the new fabrics, draft the new patterns and implement the new ideas.

The word here is NEW!

What an honour....my girls in the National Gallery!

I'm absolutely thrilled that my two girls below will soon be exhibiting in the National Gallery, London. What an honour! I believe they will be displaying Gossard corsets in the Sainsbury Wing from the end of January so if you're visiting the gallery do pop in and say hello!!

A classic colour and fabric was choosen for the task. A damask in a shade of oyster on black stands....perfection!

Celia is available in six colourways and of course tailored on a wasp waisted mannequin.

I'm planning a few changes on the Corset Laced Mannequin website and a few new mannequins! Well, it is an exciting new year, isn't it and as they say a change is as good as a rest, (which thankfully, I don't get alot of).

In the bleak mid Winter....time for bunting making!

...I know its been a real pain in the wotsit for lots of prople but I love this weather. I love the idea of a bleak mid Winter outside and a roaring fire inside.

A good stomp about and then back home for a warm up....body and soul.

The light is amazing with the snow lying 6" deep.

At home and a few moments of bunting making! A friend said that my kitchen was looking a bit dull without it so I hope she is reading this now and approving! I saw these lovely hearts on Etsy and made them with an old map and music sheets.

You can see these are easy to make. All you need is a few strips of paper and a couple of staples.

Turkey and sprouts home for Christmas. Gravy made and resting in the fridge. Husband in the pub!

All Christmas mannequin orders have been delivered and so I can relax and enjoy this special time.

Time for a rest

Today I sent my last Christmas orders off. Handed to the courier, I sighed with relief. Its been such a busy few weeks that blogging, tweeting and facebooking have all been neglected. I'm exhausted and happy. Amazing what you can do if you have a plan, determination and lots of chocolate biscuits to get you through. Its been my busiest November and December and I'm ready for a long Christmas break starting today.

We had booked a trip to London back in October when things were a little quieter. So this weekend we took the train to Waterloo. I love trains, the people watching and I admit, eavesdropping are always so entertaining!

View from the London Eye. We had two tickets going spare and so we deciding to give them away. I felt a bit silly going up to complete strangers and asking if they wanted some free tickets....they looked suspiciously at me but still took them! Hope they enjoyed it.

This chap was very entertaining. The children loved him. I thought it was a bit creepy!

Our hotel was next to the London Eye and perfect for site seeing. We visited the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Science Museum, Hamleys, Harrods and Covent Garden. Its amazing to think that all the galleries and museums are free. Standing 10" away from a Van Gogh was incredible!

I didn't go mannequin hunting! well, just one or two. This one was in Covent Garden's Bertie store. We spent awhile in Liberty's so I could spot the mannequins they have there. I think they must be vintage mannequins and tailored in Liberty fabrics and are very reasonable priced at £1,900!!! Well, you can imagine my surprise!

After today its time to concentrate on my family's Christmas. Presents to buy, tree to fetch and decorate, home to make festive, food to plan etc, etc. Isn't it fabulous...I love Christmas!

Guaranteed Chritsmas deliveries..

I've been incredibly busy over the past few weeks that I've only this morning sat down to decide when my Christmas cut off date should be. It sounds like such a simple job but I have to consider so many factors...suppliers stock, fabric stock, courier cut offs dates and of course, my personal Christmas schedule (which is very quiet on the party front...must work on that one). Anyway, I can make the following announcement!!
